My 2024-2025 School Year

Image
Hello! This is how my 2024-2025 school year went. First of all, this year I was in 8th grade, which means I am graduating Jr High this year and going into High School next year. I am very excited about that. Robotics is going very well. Sadly Ms. Beattie is moving, which means Ms. Tuffte is taking over, which, I’m not mad about. Since I’m going into High School, I’m also graduating from Vex IQ to Vex V5. Vex IQ was fun and I will miss it but I think Vex V5 will bend my mind a little more. Also, going into Vex V5 means I get to meet new people. Obviously, I will know all of the Vex IQ “graduates” which is nice. Vex is releasing 2 new games, Vex Air, which is a competition where you fly drones, and Vex Water… well, it’s water stuff. I really hope we can do the two new games. Piano is getting more challenging too. I am working on a 4 page piece by Beethoven, a piece by Eric Satie where I DO have to petal, and a piece from The 7 Dances of the Dolls. Valerie realized that all 7 of the piece...

First Robotics Tournament of the 2024-2025 Season

Last robotics tournament was a great way to kick off the season! We were not very confident in doing  well because our robot was only capable of scoring a high of 11 pts during the practice scrimmages at home (Womp Womp). But after arriving, we were quickly encouraged when we scored 76 pts in the Skills division! So when our first match of the qualification rounds came up, we were slightly less nervous than before. For the first match, we scored 25 pts… “Ok,” we thought to ourselves, “That’s pretty good!” because 25 pts this year is about 50-60 pts last year.       The reason for that is the field challenge this year is completely different.      Our score of 25 pts  remained the high score for about 20% of all the qualifications until we scored 26 pts in our second round. Our third round tho… we scored 59 pts! This would have been in the 90-100s last year. YES! This remained the high score for the rest of the tourn...

Summer Reading

My summer reading  This summer, my local library is doing a reading challenge. During this challenge I realized that I have a new addiction to reading. I like graphic novels the most. Currently, I am reading a biography book about Charles Mulli by Janet & Geoff Benge. It’s about this guy who is super poor; his family abandons him and he turns into a street kid. Then he creates his own company, turns into a billionaire, and then opens an orphanage for street kids.  I’m also reading a book about my family called Fishers of Men by Nita Brainard. Yeah, you heard me right, a book on my family.  This is our book and you can find it on Amazon for $12.95 Reading this summer has been awesome and I’m only two weeks into it!

School year of 2023-2024

Hi, welcome to my channel! My name is Channing. Not Channel. I just finished 7th grade. This school year was ummm… let’s just say uh boring (like every year), but there were some highlights of the year like Christmas at my cousins house, piano, and robotics.  This was my first year of robotics and I loved it. The robotics club I’m a part of is VEX Robotics. I was teamed up with two other boys and we named ourselves the RoboDucks. We ended up becoming the North Dakota state champion of 2023-2024 in two different categories and runner up in a third category. It was amazing and we’re already getting ready for next season’s game.  After the season, we were invited for an interview on a sports program to talk about our robot design. And as for my other passion, piano has also been tons of fun! I absolutely love it. I have an amazing teacher. At my first recital this year, I played a Waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich. I had two more recitals and am now getting ready for the last recital...
